mandate.

This was a two part project for the MPM; The Société des Marchés publics de Montréal connects Montrealers with local producers, offering access to fresh, quality products through their network of public markets.
The first part was to reinvent seed packaging, in this case; pumpkin, pea and radish seeds. The second part was to create a line extension derived from one of the seeds, in this case; pumpkin, green apple, and strawberry honey.

This strategy aims to give local products a fresh look through visually appealing packaging. By combining aesthetics with a Montreal essence, it sets the brand apart from other suppliers, making it local. The design approach is bold and minimal, with a colour palette drawn directly from the products, fun typography selection, and graphics using elements from the type.

making.

The type is not only interesting, it is the base of the whole design. Each icon was made using elements of the type. As it is made with shapes, they have been reused to create each icon, using the same sort of treatment found in the type. Creating union in the design.
Don’t get me wrong, making the final icons without cheating the different shapes took a lot of time, making sure that the icons all felt from the same family, that they had a Montreal essence, and that they represented the vegetable or fruit correctly.

seeds.

The main goal for this was to create a slick design using bold type as a graphic element and keeping the rest minimal. Hence, I didn’t want to see all the planting instructions at first glance, that is how I came up with the idea of adding a label on the packaging where the information could be placed. Then I had the idea of adding the icon die cut on the label to contrast it with the type.
In the end, this design is very practical and interactive, with the added element of the icon and label turning into a planter, and the shape of the packet making it easy to poor, to make the whole gardening experience more fun and organized.

honey.

I wanted to keep the idea of the die cut, and the label, but reworking it for a jar instead of a packet. And having that label reworked for the honey shows how this design can be branded into anything. It creates a very playful design that would definetly stand out in the MPM market.

outcome.

In the end throughout this process I learned a lot about myself, seeing things in 3D and making them come to life is something that I really enjoy and seem to understand quite well.
